September in Spud towers has been home to some kitchen disasters, from the death of a frying pan to the oven going kaput. What luck then, that there’s dozens of others food blogs out there WINNING. Here’s a selection of my favourite foodie posts from September.

One of my very favourite bloggers MiMi has been quiet of late, so any new post from her has me clicking rapidly to see the latest. As always things are pretty, brilliant, and tasty. Check out these egg and bacon tarts!

Aaron of The Grubworm specialises in big, hearty flavours. This beefy short-rib chilli is no exception. It’s the kind of photo you see at 11am and wander off immediately to the nearest butcher’s and demand the meat. Excellent stuff.

My Nan always laid her table with treats. One of the permanent residents were Tunnock’s teacakes. It had never occurred to me to make them until I saw these chocolate marshmallow teacakes by BarnetBaker. They look amazing!

I’ve been reading lots about Kibbeh lately, having got my hands on JerusalemOttolenghi’s Jerusalem. This post was timely then: Gary’s kibbeh, as tribute to the Israeli Olympic team. This is a Levantine dish of spicy, meaty, onion goodness.

I’ve followed NotQuiteNigella for years. The recipes are brilliant, the photography divine and she travels to some amazing places. But as with the best of blogs, it’s when a superb recipe is mixed with personal life that makes the most interesting posts. This recipe for maple bacon ice cream is a great example: an intriguing recipe framed with family struggles.

Helen’s recipe for spiced apple, almond and polenta cake presents an excellent cake recipe. This cake looks delicious: a spicy teatime treat.

I have to confess to local bias here; the Liberal blog manned by councillors for my area post all sorts of news from planning applications and pothole fixing. But they also post more cheery updates, such as this one about a local jam-making and brewer winning an award. Lovely stuff.

My spiritual companion blog with an Irish flavour, The Daily Spud, always posts amusing looks at a potato-shaped world. In this entry Spud visits a rapeseed oil farm, and I’m pretty sure it’s run by Donald Trump.
